Honoring Friends 2009

Manchester Democrats will be holding a reception, “Honoring Friends 2009,” on Friday evening, June 19th starting at 5:30 P.M. at Adams Mill Restaurant on Adams Street in Manchester. Honorees include: former Board of Education member Linette Small-Miller, former Town Director John Topping, and former Planning and Zoning Chairman David Wichman. The Lifetime Service Award will be presented to Raymond “Sonny” Damato.

The event will be a celebration of the honorees’ fine records of service to the Democratic Party and the Manchester community. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided and a cash bar will be available. The guest speaker will be Congressman John Larson. David Sheridan will serve as the emcee.

The 34th Annual “Honoring Friends” reception recognizes the service and accomplishments of local public servants who have contributed to the betterment of the lives of the citizens and the community of Manchester through service in elected and appointed office.

Cheney Mill Progress Halted

Here’s some insightful reading for you, regarding the Cheney Mill housing project that is being stalled by the Republican town directors.

A Journal Inquirer editorial by Keith Burr entitled “A Moratorium on Progress

“A moratorium might keep a few nostalgic local politicians in business for a short while, but it will not serve the long-term interests of Manchester.”

And a Hartford Courant editorial by Tom Condon entitled “A Smart Mill Makeover

“The project has other benefits. The town gets a majestic historic building off the blighted property list and onto the tax rolls. It completes the restoration of all the major Cheney buildings, a triumph for the town…”
