State Rep. Ryan P. Barry was first elected into office in November 2002 but his diligent service to the residents of Manchester started long before that date.

Ryan is a lifelong resident of the 12th Assembly District where he grew up on East Center Street with his parents and five siblings. He graduated from Bowers Elementary School, Illing Junior High School, and Manchester High School (1990). Ryan received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in political science from UCONN in 1994 and graduated from UCONN School of Law in 1999. Currently, Ryan is an attorney in general practice in Manchester at the Law Offices of Ryan P. Barry, LLC.

Ryan has been a member of the Manchester Democratic Town Committee for nine years. He is a former Chairman of the Manchester Fair Rent Commission. Since 2000, Ryan has served as an alternate member of the Manchester Ethics Commission.

Ryan’s political experience ranges beyond Manchester. In 1993, he spent an entire semester as a college intern for the Democratic State Senate Majority Leader. After graduating from UCONN, Ryan worked as a clerk to the General Assembly’s Appropriations Committee and volunteered for Larson for Governor, where he helped to coordinate the 2nd Congressional District. During law school, Ryan served as a legal intern to Senator Mary Ann Handley and volunteered for Larson for Congress. Since 1999, Ryan has served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Greater Hartford Transit District. For the past year, Ryan has also served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Connecticut Student Loan Foundation.

Ryan’s involvement in local organizations also is quite important to him. Ryan serves on the Board of Directors at the Lutz Children's Museum in Manchester and is a member of the Manchester Bar Association, as well as the Irish American Home Society in Glastonbury. In addition, Ryan works with several volunteer and charity-oriented organizations. He helps to repair Manchester homes during Christmas in April. Along with other Manchester Young Democrats, Ryan organizes the Annual Christmas Toy Drive that donates toys to a local battered women’s shelter. Ryan also is a regular blood donor for the American Red Cross.

Ryan lives on Knollwood Road with his wife Lisa, son Ryan, Jr., and daughter Caroline. Lisa is a Post-Doctoral fellow in Public Health at Yale University. She was born and raised in Manchester, and her family has lived in town for four generations. Ryan and Lisa are parishioners at St. Bridget Church and enjoy spending time with their families and friends.

Ryan believes that his first-hand knowledge of the legislative process, his involvement in Manchester politics, and his lifelong residence in town, helps make him an effective and responsive advocate for the 12th Assembly District. Forever looking for ways to stay in contact with his constituents, he welcomes any comments or questions.
