The Democratic Team is ready to build on its record. It's a record of improving our schools, despite millions lost in state aid:

 

IMPROVED THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION
• Expanded world language program in the middle schools
• Extended all day kindergarten to Verplanck, Waddell and Robertson
• Preserved and restructured Nature Center as part of solid science program
• Created new magnet school at Washington and continued commitment to local and regional magnet schools
• Expanded after school and summer programs

COMMITTED TO SCHOOL SAFETY AND FACILITIES UPGRADE
• Promoted consolidation and sharing of Board of Education and town services
• Completed millions of dollars in capital projects
• Dramatically reduced Manchester High dropout rate
• Developed innovative long-range security systems for all schools

BROADENED COMMUNITY INPUT
• Established quarterly newsletter, The School Bell, for all town residents
• Expanded mentoring program with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and other community partners
• Increased active student participation by student representatives at Board of Education meetings
• Initiated joint Board of Education/Directors workshops and monthly updates to improve communications

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE
• Dedicated to improving test scores by revising curriculum
• Committed to ten-year plan for renovating schools
• Purchased land adjacent to MHS for future expansion at existing site
• Conducted town-wide survey on future school projects
